Our bios at a glance:

Alice B. Fogel’s most recent book of poetry, Be That Empty, was a national poetry bestseller for 4 weeks in 2008. A recipient of a fellowship from the

National Endowment for the Arts, and four-time Pushcart nominee, her work has appeared in the Best American Poetry series, and many other anthologies and journals. Her 2009 book, Strange Terrain: A Poetry Handbook for the Reluctant Reader, is a nonacademic guide for those who don’t “get” poetry. She has taught around the country in a variety of venues. Mimi Schwartz is the author of five books, most recently, Good Neighbors, Bad Times - Echoes of My Father's German Village, a 2008 winner of the ForeWord Book of the Year Award in Memoir, and the NH Writers Project Nonfiction Award. Other books include Thoughts from a Queen-Sized Bed, a 2002 favorite of JCC book clubs, and Writing True: The Art and Craft of Creative Nonfiction (with Sondra Perl), used in writing programs nationwide. She is Professor Emerita at Richard Stockton College in NJ, and teaches at conferences, libraries and institutes across this country and abroad. She spends her summers on Lake Sunapee. Location

Our writing getaway will take place at Dexter's Inn, a country resort-inn, set on an idyllic hilltop estate in the lovely and unhurried Lake Sunapee region. The panoramic views of Mount Kearsarge, Mount Sunapee and the surrounding countryside will provide a private, peaceful backdrop for our workshops.

The guest rooms are warm, welcoming and comfortable. Each uniquely decorated room has a charming New England colonial feel and private bathroom. You can choose a double or single room.

Dexter's Inn is close to I-89, I-91 and Amtrak, as well as being near the New London stop on the luxurious, direct Dartmouth Coach line from Boston and NYC. It is located just 30 minutes from Hanover and Lebanon, 45 minutes from Concord, 60 minutes from Manchester, 90 minutes from Boston and 4.5 hours from New York and North Jersey.


Schedule

The retreat starts with dinner on Friday night and runs through lunch on Sunday afternoon. You can check in anytime after 3 p.m. on Friday. If you are bringing a guest, they may join us for meals, the programs on Friday and Saturday nights and all non-workshop time. Commuters are also welcome, and can choose the appropriate meal plan.


Tuition

$250 (take a $25 discount if you’re a NH Writers' Project member)includes poetry or creative nonfiction workshop with challenging assignments to get you producing new writing, and opportunities to receive feedback in supportive sessions.
